Why it happens hasn't quite been proven yet. So, just because evolution isn't explained in the Bible doesn't mean it hasn't happened. The Bible doesn't explain everything. While that's not really that long ago, there's absolutely no question that we're all descended from a population that existed well before biblical times. What people will probably come to realise is that religion and evolution don't have to be exclusive of each other. We are giving away 10 copies.

since Darwin first floated the theory of evolution in the mid-19th century, creationists and scientists have argued often bitterly over the true origin of the species on Earth. And although it doesn't really matter in a country like the United States or Western Europe, the growing antipathy towards science in countries in Africa and South America is very worrying, because many of the problems that will beset nations around the world, particularly the poorer nations, will require investment in science. It used to be that a few fossils on a card table were enough evidence to convince scientists that humans had evolved. There are still jurisdictions in the United States where creationism and evolution are given equal weight in education. But irrespective of what the United States requires in terms of curricula, the availability of data on the Web the whole IT movement is making it more and more likely that an increasing number of young minds will have their own questions, and find their own answers. But today, there are hundreds of fossils spanning four million years in Africa. It's critical, now more than ever, that we embrace the plethora of evidence that points to evolution. It doesn't explain how we can get pictures through fiber-optic cable, or how we walked on the moon. It's a continuum. What causes things to
change in nature. His pioneering work in the Turkana Basin region of northern Kenya has unearthed much of the existing fossil evidence for human evolution. But that doesn't mean those things aren't real, or that they are anti-Christian in some way. Obviously, there are some gaps in the story at the moment, but they're being filled. Currently, he is the chairman of the Turkana Basin Institute, a professor of anthropology at Stony Brook University and a fellow of the Royal Society of London.

finding new fossils means that the aggregate of information is growing almost exponentially now. The acceleration of data accumulation is rendering the evolution debate moot. We can trace this evidence from us back through pre-us and pre-them to first tools and pre-tools to the first upright, two-legged hominid. There will always be the fundamentalists, but I think the general sense that we're simple explanation of creation that's in the Bible. But the evidence on the physical side, the geological side, and the dating side is very, very secure. It could be the Darwinian idea of natural selection, or it could be a more complicated process that hasn't yet been distilled into a single word. My grandfather recognised that people need to
have either a very good education or faith, because there are so many questions around us. But with the progress of science and the information that's now available, I think more and more people are going to say, "Well, I can still believe in God, but I don't think he has to have created me". We can follow the mitochondrial strain back in terms of modern humans, and trace it all the way back to a population that lived in Africa 65,000 years ago. In the next 15-30 years, that debate will cease. If you don't have access to answers to those questions, blind faith can be very helpful
This effectively abolishes the current annual licence fee of 252 euros. The news was first reported by Turun Sanomat. Kaija Suvanto, Head of the Unit for EU and Treaty Law of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, explains that the pact ensures
that no delicate material ends up in the wrong hands. · The new pact was initiated by Finland. Nonetheless, the biggest issue has been licencing fee evasion. Suvanto ensures that there is no need for anxiety. Kiuru also stated that the new form of financing public television broadcasting brings YLE a new agenda, that of preserving and upholding Finnish culture. He has filed an inquiry request on the treaty for the Data Protection Ombudsman. This ensures YLE an annual budget of 500 million euros, with the citizens providing 480 million euros and companies a further 22 million. · Finland has made pacts with European countries on the protection of classified information. However, these are probably not what Finland's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Erkki Tuomioja had in mind when signing the treaty with the United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. As the Minister of Housing and Communications, Krista Kiuru recently explained to Yle, the new funding solution will be just, as households that have loyally paid the licence fee eve-
ry year will no longer have to make up for missing revenues, relieving them of more than 80 euros of television payments a year. There are also many who oppose the new tax, saying that they have no interest in what YLE has to offer and therefore think it unfair that they have to pay for its services. Another, seemingly irreversible, trend is increasing use of the Internet for entertainment, making it more difficult to justify the "YLE tax". "I am worried about the confidential sharing of infor-
mation with a country where the death penalty is still imposed," says Elfgren. In order to ensure that YLE fulfils its public service objectives without compromising other market players, a supervisory committee will evaluate and monitor its activities.

PARLIAMENT has now passed legislation on a public broadcasting tax, set to start in 2013, to fund the Finnish Broadcasting Company, YLE. And if YLE continues to develop a written online news service, it drifts close

people will be passed on to the USA." Suvanto contends that the pact is aimed at purchases, for example relating to Foreign and Security policies. "In the worst case scenario confidential information would be sent otherwise via traditional mail. What exactly does a pact such as this comprise. Minors and people earning less than 7,353 euros a year will not have to pay, while people whose incomes exceed 20,588 euros will pay the maximum tax of 140 euros. Elfgren believes that the Data Protection Ombudsman should examine whether the treaty jeopardises the individual's right to learn what one's information has been used for, and what specific information has been passed on to the USA. Previously the pact dealt with only matters of the Defence Administration. · The so-called third countries have also approached Finland, but so far Finland has not shown interest. Classified documents include those containing information on Foreign and Security policies, the Defence Administration, science and technology. The tax to be paid will depend on income, and range between 50 and 140 euros. Commercial channels have also voiced concern over the new tax as they fear that
YLE might buy similar programming to theirs, thereby competing for a share of their audience, with the taxpayer's money. In Finland alone, an estimated quarter million people don't bother paying the licence fee, with almost 20,000 people caught dodging it every year

Hillary Clinton visited Finland last week. Real estate prices rising faster in Finland
FIGURES from Statistics Finland indicate that real estate prices for older apartments and terraced houses rose by 1.2 per cent between April and May. Head of Development Ilkka Lehtinen of Statistics Finland has calculated that food prices have risen 23.5 per cent in the years 20052012, when other commodity prices have risen 17.6 per cent and food prices in the other EU countries have risen by an average of 19 per cent. Support for the NCP is now at 21.6 per cent, and 20.8
for SDP. The price of food has risen throughout the world due to global market prices, which spiked most sharply in 2007, but Lehtinen says there is something homespun about the price rise in Finland. The real
price of food is thus at a 1995 level. Prior to the rise in prices in January prices fell in the months from October to December. In March prices rose even slower, by 0.2 per cent. The Social Democratic Party has again managed to close the gap, although changes to party support figures were very small. In February real estate prices fell. The daily average for Helsinki comes to 16 stolen bicycles. In April the average price per square metre came to 2,098 euros in Finland," according to the report by Statistics Finland.. Relative to income level food has become less expensive, as nominal wages rose by 75 per cent over the same period.
Most thefts occurred in the areas of Kallio, Taka-Töölö and Kamppi. Haavisto has since faded from view as the chairman of the Greens' parliamentary group, and the party's support figures have returned to their earlier level, with 9.2 per cent support in the June poll

The role of Mofaz in suggesting a more moderate Israeli policy line on Iran is at least in part the result of more senior Israeli national security figures speaking out publicly against the Netayahu threat of war on Iran, according to Yossi Alpher, a former head of the Jaffee Center for Security Studies at Tel Aviv University and a special adviser to then prime minister Ehud Barak in 2000.

BY STAKING out a policy line on Iran reflecting the views of the Israeli national security leadership, Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz has undercut Benjamin Netanyahu's government's carefully planned strategy to get US President Barack Obama to threaten war against Iran if it doesn't give up its nuclear programme. Even after Mofaz joined the coalition government in May, the Netanyahu strategy continued to unfold according to plan. The tandem of Israeli and Congressional targets of AIPAC would push for US demands in the negotiations with Iran that would ensure their failure. Allies of Netanyahu have
suggested that the pressure on Obama to adopt a new red line would peak during the 2012 presidential election campaign. This Amazon of Europe comes with 800,000 hectares of green belt along its banks, and those of its tributaries, in five countries Austria, Croatia, Hungary, Serbia and Slovakia. Austria has built several dozen groynes along 49 kilometres of the Danube east of Vienna at a cost of 274 million dollars. Commercial considerations Commercial considerations threaten all this. Thousands of families depend on the Danube through fishing and cultivation, which is tuned to the river's flooding and ebbing. "The interest of major European countries in commercial shipping is understandable," says economist Nebojsa Savic. The Wachau Valley in Austria which has benefitted in agricultural terms over the years as part of the Danube floodplain.. But as the third round talks with Iran were ending in Moscow, Mofaz, who was in Washington to consult with US officials on the Palestinian issue, departed publicly and dramatically from Netanyahu's policy on Iran. But such works can also completely change the eco-system of the area. "Threats to wildlife are serious," head of the Worldwide Fund for Nature in Serbia Duska Dimovic has stated. It has been the premise on which Israel has tried to reduce progressively Obama's freedom of action on Iran with the ultimate objective of maximising the likelihood of an eventual US attack on Iranian nuclear sites. Pressures by Hungarian environmentalists have prevented a similar project in that country. Austria and Croatia are engaged in a major project to tame the Danube, to `correct' its meandering stream into a straight one to facilitate commercial shipping along the river to the Black Sea. Hence they can tell their electorate they have enacted a stimulus package, even if that package is likely to do little good. I think a common banking regime is a good idea. It remains to be seen, however, whether global economic conditions and our own policies will allow Finns to remain in useful employment, or if larger forces eventually generate a more serious problem of joblessness.
Out of it Another key indicator of socio-economic health is structural unemployment. This increase was almost entirely among women; indeed the number of employed men actually fell slightly. "It's not supposed to make sense," he said. This is an area of concern for the government, which must find ways to boost the private sector and generate growth.

sense at all.
ANOTHER illogical thing coming out of Finnish politicians is that only Spanish "banks fit to survive" will receive our funding. If it is all spent during one year, it would be worth about 1% of GDP.
ONE per cent isn't a terrible number it would be the
equivalent of the average Finn receiving an extra 280 but it isn't enough. The unemployment rate among persons aged 15-24 was 18.5%, compared to the overall trend rate of 7.5%. He is also a private investor with over ten years of experience.
Irrationality and Europe
ONE
of the most profound moments of my education came when I was a young teenager in a class about government. The structurally unemployed include the long-term unemployed, the repeatedly unemployed, and those who stay employed only during periods of labour policy measures. "It came out of compromise."
Despite tough economic times, unemployment figures remain relatively good.

that was when I first started to realise how politics works. As well, the number of employed persons grew mainly in the public sector, with private sector employment remaining static The employment picture is therefore mixed: there has been stagnation in the private sector, although thankfully the jobs lost in the current crisis are being made up. Overall, therefore, the employment figures for Finland are certainly not as disastrous as those of, say, the PIIGS nations. However, it may come as a surprise that in fact, the unemployment rate has been trending down recently. With committed action from the state, the numbers will remain under control. While certainly not as good as the halcyon days of the 1980s, it is a long way away from the devastating numbers of the depression of the early 1990s. Trying to pretend that only those banks that don't need our help will receive our help is irrational in the extreme. While not a particular reason for
panic, it remains a matter that must be addressed, with some 140,000 persons chronically out of work and hence not contributing to the economy. Nobel Prize winner Paul Krugman opines that the American stimulus package failed because it was only 1.5% of GDP. The long-term trend had been a steady reduction in the numbers of the structurally unemployed, but this was reversed in 2008. IN my opinion, the most recent emergency summit is thin on reason. It supports weak lenders while avoiding piling on debt on troubled sovereigns. Yet one of our most powerful political parties promised collateral, and so we will demand it, no matter how much it costs us. BUT WE WILL HELP YOU. With Spain's 20% unemployment, a one per cent stimulus package is obscenely underfunded.
YET with recent elections in Europe, "growth" has clearly won over "austerity." Our politicians had to offer some growth measures, even if they are unreasonably small. 8

David J. My teacher explained in detail a recent piece of legislation and asked the class if it made sense. There was a sharp uptick in the winter of 2008-2009, but since then it has actually decreased gradually. We must pay a great deal of money for it. Indeed, much of what they do is profoundly irrational, which explains much of what came out of our most recent emergency summit.
TO ONCE again kick a decomposing horse, take our collateral deal as an example. Every single independent opinion of which I am aware has declared our previous collateral deal a terrible agreement for Finland. As Finnish politicians know very well, we had to fund our "bad bank" during the 1990s crisis. 20th?) emergency summit calls for a new growth package. Unfortunately the growth has been in publicsector jobs, which are not the long-term growth engine. It should come as no surprise that unemployment has been on the increase since the beginning of the current economic downturn in 2007-2008. The numbers peaked in mid2010, and since then have been relatively stable. It should be noted that unemployment numbers in Finland are highly seasonal. Unsurprisingly this has tracked general unemployment, but it is more of a long-term worry as the chronically unemployed represent a permanent drain on state coffers, not just directly through the welfare system but also because they tend to create social order problems, and because their

I couldn't figure out why we did it with financial market supervision a couple of years ago and ignored banking, but at least now it is being taken care of. No, we all concurred, it doesn't. years ago Everplay was a social game developer trying to promote its games on Facebook. In a Eureka moment, they realised their idea of cross-promoting games between independent developers and publishers could be a viable business model. We have had to change our plans even on the verge of launching new products, as the new features or change of rules by the platform owners such as Facebook or Apple have changed. But at the same time, the environment for social and mobile games has changed fast as the platforms where games are played change rapidly for example Fa-
cebook or Apple's platform so in order to remain competitive, we have had to rethink our business model somewhat and what services we are providing to the end users, game developers and studios. "Our network now reaches 150 million unique users each month all around the world. We got the first 55 million users in just less than 100 days. So Everplay metamorphosed into Applifier, the company that amplifies applications. "We chose investors that bring other knowledge from the games and advertising space to the table, not just money. "We have found it to be quite easy to work with such international investors, and we are constantly communicating with the investors and advisors we have," Aakko says

Embracing all things folk, the themes for this year's event are Scandinavia, the kantele and Southern Finland's historical province of Tavastia (Häme). New Rope String Band import their hilarity from the UK, and the majestic sounds of local singer/ songwriter Tuure Kilpeläin-
en and Nikolai Blad will also be heard. 14

What kind of neighbourhood is it. To reach the nearest train station or stores quickly, only one bus can be taken from where I live, and it drives by every 20 minutes. Radishes grow on the rooftop of the Cable Factory in Helsinki. Different plants grow at a varying pace, with mint already blossoming and salad and radishes expected around Midsummer. Project leader Angela Oker-Blom attempted for years to negotiate with the management of the Cable Factory, but did not succeed until Slow Food became a part of the gardening project. · Dodo's urban farmers have developed a model of a growing box that can be easily installed, for example in the yards of housing blocks, as done by residents in Vallila and Viikki. A hot air balloon lands at a sports grounds in Tuomarila.. · As part of WDC 2012, Dodo has also opened an urban farming centre, cafe, greenhouse and an open, public space called Turntable situated in Pasila's historical rail way yard.

SLOW FOOD, a worldwide international project with over 150,000 members, embraces pure, locally produced and tasty food as opposed to the fast food culture and the hectic lifestyle that goes with it. As the organisation's resources did not include a garden, the idea of city gardening came to be developed, with Kaapelitehdas (Cable Factory) and its top floor in mind for growing selected goods. Besides soil, they are also planted among algae. · In recent years, Tuomarila has expanded fast, with new housing towering up around the train station.

Slow Food Helsinki operates in English, and aims to increase interest among foreigners living in Finland. I like the fact that it's a very serene neighbourhood. Tuomarila got its own train station on September 1, 1931 and the station building has stayed almost exactly the same since then. The execution began in late May, with the carrying of the wooden boxes and selected items for gardening. Last autumn, Helsinki established its local equivalent, which consists of about 100 food enthusiasts. · There is a comprehensive school, day nursery and a Mormon church located within the neighbourhood, as well as its most famous building, the Volunteer Fire Fighter house. What do you like about your neighbourhood. Due to the venture's international nature, and its focus on families and foreigners, the negotiations ended favourably, and Kaapelitehdas

Entresse is the nearest mall where you find a comfy public library, different stores and restaurants. If you are a type of person who wants to escape the busy and noisy city life, Tuomarila is the right place for you.
Urban gardening going strong · City gardening is an increasingly popular phenomenon, practiced globally by an estimated 800 million people. Now that we have seen that people accept it, we thought that, `let's put together a real combination of everything'. But perhaps I will leave this for another time as La Patrona will suffice for now. HAVING already introduced Helsinki to the wonders of the Mexican kitchen with their first establishment, Café de Nopal, Manu and Erika Torchio and Karina Paakki have recently expanded their idea to the larger confines of Patrona. I notice that the dining area is now filling with customers, all unwinding after work. A final dessert of Mexican lemon pie (4) fills my palate with sweet tangy flavour, with its refreshing creamy centre with biscuit bringing to an end a thoroughly enjoyable experience. "Basically Patrona is a big sister of Nopal," Paakki explains, pointing out that the name means `female boss'. Two Sopesitos de Chorizo con Frijol (5.90) arrive in quick succession, with the smoky sausage flavour covered with guacamole and tomato resting on a sope base. The affable Manu is on hand to continue the conversation where Paakki left off. We want to treat you like you are in our house. The atmosphere rises around me as people continue streaming in. We make everything from scratch."
Taste of Mexico A few minutes later and I'm satisfied that the food certainly lives up to its growing reputation. "The Mexican kitchen is now more known in Helsinki. "You can come dressed up, or just how you are, for a romantic dinner or with your friends. We want people to come and relax and enjoy the food." The phone in her hand rings, interrupting our conversation; Paakki excuses herself and rushes off to organise another customer reservation. Oh, I tell a lie, there's a small drop left in my glass of Buscadores tequila, one of nine different tequilas on offer (9-12.50 for 4 cl). This was the first idea with Nopal: to see what people think, how they react to the food. I take a sip of their most popular margarita, appropriately named La Patrona (9.50), with half of its rim dipped in salt and the other in chilli. Soon my friendly waiter Enrique returns with his favourite dish, Coutel de Camaron (7.50), a shrimp cocktail that provides a sweet
and satisfying introduction to Mexican beach food. Now we can offer everything for people, with Mexican service, reservations and alcohol." With Nopal about to reopen as a lunch takeaway place, this leaves Patrona to tempt customers with a full bar on offer, which includes a glass cabinet filled with a wide variety of tequilas.
"It's really relaxed here," Paakki continues. It's for everyone. A plate now sits before me containing a sample of two tacos, one filled with pork and the other with lamb, that typically are served as a main dish of four of either (16.50/19.50) "You must eat with your hands," Enrique insists, "it doesn't taste the same with a knife and fork." Duly I oblige and begin ladling the pineapple salsa onto my pork taco, with the sweetness of the salsa contrasting well with the salty meat
