Italian ambassador to Finland, Giorgio Visetti, has defended his PM, saying the timing of publication of Der Spiegel interview was bad.
Monti wanted to meet Soini Ambassador Visetti explains that the visit to Finland was considered necessary as it gave both countries an opportunity to air their views. Monti's visit took place on Wednesday and
Thursday during the first week of August. The ambassador addressed a letter to the media giving background to the interview behind the uproar. Visetti believes that despite their differing views, Finland and Italy can achieve fruitful collaboration. Earlier this week head of the Finnish Olympic team, Kari Niemi-Nikkola, said Finland did worse than expected at several sports and it is expected there will be an enquiry aimed at improving the country's performance at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Niemi-Nikkola was disappointed.. That Finland's favourite javelin thrower Pitkämaki who was highly touted to medal at the games failed to impress in an event won by Trinidad and Tobago's Keshorn Wal-
cott shows just how much Finnish dreams failed to materialise. Even in the Helsinki area it's possible to get back to nature with relative ease. He stated that Finland repeatedly undermines the consensus reached at the EU summit meetings. The desire, and right, to spend time outdoors is an intrinsic part of the national identity of the country. At the EU summit, Finland was opposed to purchasing bonds issued by the struggling EU countries in the secondary market, which raised heckles particularly in Italy. Visetti states that Monti's comments should be seen in their correct context, noting that the interview was given in July, soon after the June EU summit. The comments were met with surprise in Finland since Monti had just held talks with the Finnish leaders and the visit had been judged a success. Tuuli Petäjä's stunning silver medal in the women's windsurfing event last week was followed by Silja Kanerva, Silja Lehtinen, Mikaela Wulff's bronze in the Elliott 6m

The German news magazine Der Spiegel carried an interview with Monti last week, expressing his view that the Finnish government is hampering efforts to solve the European debt crisis. According to Visetti, Mario Monti had wanted to meet Timo Soini, the leader of the Finns Party. It came out this Tuesday that Monti gave the interview before his visit to Finland. "The Italian prime minister accepted the invitation because the
prime ministers of both countries were in agreement on the importance of gaining an insight into each other's stance on the eurozone crisis," Visetti explains. ISSUE 33 (264) · 16 22 AUGUST 2012 · 3 · W W W.HEL SINKITIMES.FI

With all that cheating weighing on my mind, Garrett's sentence was an additional terrible blow. I curled into the fetal position the world looked terrible to me. We break the rules. But then he got caught, and now it's too late to correct his mistakes.

AFTER the recession of the past few years, foreign real estate deals are again on the rise. Last year the net value of real estate transactions was about 8 million euro. In these buyer groups, many have family ties to Finland. The majority of properties sold to foreign buyers are still being bought by Russians. How do you determine who is a foreigner. With the increased ability to mobilise capital internationally, businesses are free to transfer funds across borders," says senior economist Seija Lainela from the Bank of Finland Institute for Economies in Transition.

In the border regions these are the zones most important to national defence, the Ministry of Justice states. According to Statistics Finland, the number of foreign guests staying with accommodation businesses has most increased in Southern Savonia, where Russians also make the majority of real estate deals. As Russia's economy grows and its wealth increases, the possibilities of investing elsewhere also evolve, says Timo Laukkanen, an expert with the Confederation of Finnish Industries.
Russians mostly buy holiday and residential real estate from Finland. Therefore the image of foreign real estate deals is not completely clear. Otherwise real estate investments are directed elsewhere. · The three most distinctive foreign buyer groups are Russians, Swedish Finns and Central European couples, where one of the spouses is Finnish.

Support comes in the shape of the up and coming charms
of duo Eva & Manu. Cinematic flavour comes in the shape of Movie Picnic (18-20.9), with a trio of free films screening at Kansalaistori including Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke, Veit Helmer's Baikonur and Aki Kaurismäki's Calamari Union. Dubstep maestro Skrillex arrives with his impressively unorthodox array of beats and sounds. The biggest festival of 2011 treated 184,000 visitors to classical and world music, circus, dance, theatre, a children's programme, cinema and a range of urban events. Coming up this week, Madeleine Peyroux (17.8) mixes jazz, pop and folk to create a rewarding concert experience at Huvila Festival Tent. Support comes from Felix Zenger in Huvila Festival Tent. Elsewhere, theatre is represented by the likes of Play it Billy (17-19.8) at Teatteri Jurkka. Known for her cover versions of classics from Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and Hank Williams, her performance will also include original songs of her own. Amongst the many other musical acts on offer during the week, Apocalyptica (20.8) bring their classical approach to metal to Huvila Festival Tent, accompanied by the masters of heavy metal chamber music, Metallifonia. Based on the life of jazz pianist Billy Tipton, who grew up as Dorothy but put on a suit at 19 and became male musician Billy, the performance will be subtitled in English.
Looking for a blast of contemporary indie rap. A summary of events staged during the weeks to come will be in next week's Helsinki Times. Bringing together some of the biggest international and local names, the festival is being staged for the first time and arrives at the tail end of the summer festival
Kino Tapiola Espoo Cultural Centre Bio Rex Sello
season, hoping to cap things off in style. French dance star David Guetta heads the bill, bringing a range of chart-topping anthems both recent and classic. Ghanaian-Brooklynite Blitz the Ambassador (18.8) calls on hip-hop, afrobeat, funk and Ethio-jazz to accompany his flow and is backed by a huge entourage, including a horn section. This generation's Pet Shop Boys, electro-pop duo Hurts, follow up their Jäähalli gig from last October with a highlyanticipated set that draws from their acclaimed debut Happiness. From the local scene, the reggae bounce of Jukka Poika, the rap of Cheek and the rock of Poets of the Fall are highlights of the programme.

A win-win system where people can part with things that they do not need anymore and earn something in the process and the buyer gets good stuff at affordable prices. There are websites like huuto.net, tori. But among all this the greatest winner is the concept of a society that promotes "sustainable development".

Celebrating three years of Chinese holistic massage in Helsinki
Three years ago we began offering our services in Helsinki our third year of working together for health and well-being!
Our broad selection of regenerating, stress-removing and revitalizing treatments has been very well received in Finland. But of course second hand shops have more to offer, right from books and bikes, to antiques and furniture. Then there are shops where you can leave your stuff for a couple of months and get forty percent from sale and of course the more popular itsepalvelu (self-service) second hand shops. fi, vauva.fi etc. There is something for everyone. As I delved deeper into it, I realised that second hand culture is an integral part of Finnish society. As all those who live here know, children need at least five pairs a year to step out and make the most of all the seasons. Not to forget the extremely professional ladies at nettikirppu.fi, who take your stuff and assess them, pay you a price and then sell it and keep the inventory, making it the most hassle-free experience for me. It's not something for the "poor" as in my native country India. Helsinki Times looks at the Finnish phenomenon of berry and mushroom picking, visits the charismatic lighthouses around Helsinki and gives a full summary of the Helsinki Festival that is finally upon us.

The Kirppu story
COMING
from a country like India where second hand goods are looked upon as inferior given their suspicious sourcing and poor quality, I had a huge mental block towards kirpputori (second hand shops). I have used a combination of these means to sell stuff especially children's
toys, clothes, shoes etc. But Finland had a different story to tell about flea markets. I began to appreciate the concept of kirpputori, not only as a source of buying things that are hitherto expensive if bought new, but the idea also struck me to be environment friendly and a unique means of recycling.
It's also amazing how well the second hand market is organised in Finland
