In my book, I offer the Russian language to the reader
in a different form than what
was done previously. But sometimes I wear another hat. a number of cities . It is not true.
Apart from the Russian language people should study
other things. But it is
politics. And Niinistö is interested as well.
Not only interested, but

He does his best.
The Finnish government
has realised the importance
of knowing Russian in Finland. Personally, I see
the knowledge transfer as
an important part of my job.
I often hold speeches for varied audiences covering, for
instance, topics about the
differences between Finns
and Russians.
In an attempt to convey this
theoretical knowledge, you
offered to inaugurate an
annual Russian fair to exchange ideas.
It is not a fair as such, in
Finnish it is gathering
around ?venäjä osaaminen?.
It is dif?cult to translate, it
is more related to a thinktank on Russia and knowledge. It is true,
that the attitude towards
Russians is gradually normalising, and in normal relations common sense wins,
not emotions. In
the national branding theory, there are two primary sources of information
about other cultures . We
have also strange conceptions about the signi?cance
of knowing Russian. The idea is to summon
politicians, of?cials, researchers, businessmen and
head-hunters who are interested in Russia, and to share
visions and knowledge.
Do you think that the impetus behind the interest in Russian is generated
by purely economical reasons or the changing atti-
tudes towards Russians in
general?
I think that many factors are
intertwined here. How
is the situation changing
at the moment?
In this respect the situation
has changed dramatically.
In the Soviet time, it is true,
only left-wing politicians
endorsed partnerships with
Russia and studying its language. or
that it takes a special person to study Russian. Recently I held
a meeting with the Spanish ambassador and it was
about the language mission
of Finland. The Centre is a
joint effort of several actors.
The activities are coordinat-
ed by Aleksanteri Institute.
Getting the status and resources of a centre of excellence is an indication of the
high level of Russian studies in Finland. And,
from what I understand, the
number of realists has been
growing in recent times.
Can the number of realists explain the initiative
of East regions to inaugurate the Russian language
in schools?
Sure, for them it is clear.
They see Russians every day.
Do you think this day-today personal contact is prevailing over the media. However, now, the
right-wing party Kokoomus and Elinkeinoelämän
Keskusliitto (The Confederation of Finnish Industries)
are favouring Russian language. I said around
two per cent. There are six
group leaders in the centre:
top-level researchers in sociology and political studies.
I am in charge of the cluster
on philosophical and cultural interpretations of Russian
modernisation.
But as you once mentioned,
regardless of an impressive
amount of theoretical and
academic knowledge, ordinary Finns do not know
very much about their Eastern neighbour.
Not only regular people,
knowledge produced by researchers does not often
reach even policy-makers and businessmen. are just fascinating and evoke positive
feelings. Please, inform
us about what is happening
there?.
At that moment Heinonen realised that, if we have
such a reputation, we should
capitalise on it. In my opinion, even
negative reports are proving
that Russia is an important
country for us.
Concerning the Russian
language, it is traditionally considered as extremely tangled and dif?cult for
foreigners.
Our people still have a
strange perception of Russian language, that it is dif?cult . And I have
received a lot of feedback. I tried
to convey some ideas with
humour and draw attention
to similarities between the
Finnish and other languages. My answer was that
we have more jobless people with good knowledge of
English, so what. on the
South or in the Baltic states
. This is the
?eld in which we are a ?superpower?, if I may coin a
phrase. When common sense wins, we will realise that we have here a big
neighbour and a big market.
So, it is foolish to know nothing about it. However,
if one knows Russians and
has close contacts, media
reports become overshadowed. Frankly speaking, I didn?t have any political convictions, but for me
it was a form of protest.
My father was a Lutheran priest and I was a good
child. There still are some
gaps in our knowledge on
Russia, for example, we have
too little research and specialists on Russian law and
market analysis.
You also have a new centre of excellence on Russian
modernisation. I held the of?ce
of the Vice-Rector at that
time, and I know this story
very well. Then after school I
wanted to shock my family,
but they never condemned
me for it.
Earlier, only left-wing parties and fringe politicians

by the markets preparing for

According to IMF, when

while the assets of the Bank

According to an example calculation by IMF, the

Feldstein expects the tenyear reference rate in the US

The error found in a study

was embarrassing for them.
But it does not essentially
change how high public debt

Even the corrected ?gures
prove that the GDP growth
will clearly slow down if the
debt ratio is more than 90%.
The ?gures of Reinhart/Rogoff and their critics are close

. The area consists of a
vast space and several buildings, including two gasometres that create a special,
industrial atmosphere.
The
three-day
programme is packed with a
variety of internationally renowned bands from outside
Finland such as Bolt Thrower,
Testament, Kreator and King
Diamond, as well as Finnish metal favourites such as
Amorphis, Stratovarius and
Nightwish, who are the closing act of the festival on Sunday evening, performing a
two hour set with their current lead singer Floor Jansen.
These bands will be playing on three different stages
compared to four last year:
the Radio Rock main stage
for the headliners; the Inferno Stage where bands such
as Ihshan and Deathchain
will be ?ring out blast beats,
and then the Club stage inside the Kattilahalli building where smaller and more
experimental bands such
as Delirium?s Order and Urfaust will take over. Next
to the food booths, merchandise stands and Alepa supermarket wagon, the two
beer areas of last year have
been combined into one
large, promisingly named,
Puistobaari (Park bar) area
from which you can still see
the Radio Rock and Inferno stage. +358 (0) 9 40509660 Bus 24.

. Several
studies have addressed the
effect of a vegetarian diet
on overall health, although
there has been no consistency among their findings.
This study has confirmed
previous conclusions on the
beneficial health effects of
vegetarianism, translating
to a markedly decreased
risk of diabetes, coronary
disease, and hypertension.
Exotic meats
may be a danger
to health
Horse meat may have given rise to a large-scale
food scandal but in reality, other kinds of meat carry far more health risks.
According to an article in
The Independent, one of
Britain?s leading newspapers, Brits nowadays are
keen to taste more exotic
meats, which is not always
safe because of looser hygiene regulations in the
meat?s country of origin.
Llama meat has been increasingly popular as an
ingredient in kebabs and
burgers, thus becoming
a plausible alternative to
beef. The highest
price increases in groceries,
responsible for increased
inflation, were primarily
due to pricier fruit, vegetables, meat and dairy products. A similar inward
trend of inflation was also observed in April 2013,
when the increase was 1,5
per cent, compared to the
increase observed in April
2012. 16

. This result was also valid in the case of vegetarians
who consumed fish, milk,
or eggs. The crucial factor in
these results was the avoidance of red meat. as
few as seven . The result revealed
the superiority of the walnut
when it comes to nutritional content, beating all other
members of the nut family to
the title of superfood.
Walnuts grow on any tree
of the genus Juglans, found
mostly in Asia and Eastern
Europe, and are often found
in the market in their raw
form, encrusted in a round,
thick shell. On a monthly scale
between April and May, inflation has remained on
the same level. Additionally,
bush meat such as gorilla and chimpanzee meat,
as well as that of antelope and crocodile has also
been finding eager buyers
within certain ethnic communities. There is also increasing
suspicion that the export
of exotic meat may be used
as a means to traffic illegal
drugs to other countries.

key to longevity,
research reveals
Researchers in the United
States have confirmed that
vegetarians most proba-
desserts or something to enjoy while sipping a beer. Earlier this year, a large-scale diabetes study showed that the
consumption of walnuts was
key in reducing the risk of the
development of the disease.
But it?s not all praise for
the walnut, as some articles
on the Internet warn against
the excessive consumption
of nuts in general, stressing
their abundant fat content.
However, according to scientists, regularly consuming a handful of walnuts. Stir in ice water to make
a soupy, spoonable consistency.
. Enjoy walnuts raw, as
part of a healthy dessert or
as a tasty addition to this exotic, refreshing soup, perfect
for the warm days of summer
ahead.

Ingredients:
2 large cucumbers, seeded, peeled and finely diced
2 cups plain yoghurt
1/4 cup golden raisins, finely diced
1/4 cup walnuts, toasted and finely chopped
3 scallions, white part only, finely chopped
1/4 cup parsley, finely chopped
small handful chives, minced
. Pour into a large jar and refrigerate for several hours.
. The
results have shown that,
compared to those consuming red meat, the mortality rate of vegetarians
was 12 per cent lower than
that of red meat consumers. They
offer signi?cant health bene?ts and should thus be an integral part of one?s daily diet.
Although this consensus was
reached years ago, researchers set off to compare different types of nuts in order to
identify the differences between their individual properties. The walnut is a
health cocktail like no other: not only is it rich in proteins, ?ber and omega-3 and
omega-6 fatty acids, but it
also contains an outstanding amount of high-quality
antioxidants.
Research ?ndings dating back to 2011 suggest that
these antioxidants are responsible for the prevention
of cardiovascular disease,
gallstones and cancer. However, bush
meat, and ape meat in particular, is said to be unsafe
due to possibly illegal import and trade, and probable contamination with
diseases such as HIV, ebola, anthrax, and yellow fever. Combine cucumber, yogurt, raisins, walnuts, scallions, parsley, chives, and dill in a large bowl. To serve, ladle into small bowls or cups and garnish with sumac and rose petals.

Svetlana Huusko, manager of a restaurant and hotel service, before coming to
Finland was deputy director at a spa-center. The magni?cient
and mesmerising nature is
also very important to me
and the traf?c is much better than in Russia.
I have a great respect for
the Finns, especially their
tremendous attitude towards nature and the fact
that they take care of their
health and engage actively
in sports. I?m originally from

Reflexology foot massage: 42 . I also feel happy and lucky that
I?ve found friends who come
from all over the world and
although they all have very
different backgrounds, they
are all very interesting, imaginative and special.
I will be happy and proud
if my children are born here.
Of course they will also learn
all about their Russian roots,
but I feel that it?s much safer to raise children here and
teach them the right attitude towards the world.
Every time I cross the
border nowadays, I feel like
I?m coming home.

Meridian massage: 49. But now
In this series expatriates write about their lives in Finland.
I?m faced with the following problem: in order for my
business to start working I
have to hire a certain amount
of people, but because of the
large taxes and deductions I
won?t be able to provide any
of my employees with normal salaries and insurances.
I hope the centre for entrepreneurs will be able to help
me out or else I will have to
think about another education and profession.
I think the taxes are too
high here, and even if you
manage to organise a business, it will be dif?cult to
obtain a pro?t. Otherwise, everything concerning
papers was very accessible,
understandable, but I can?t
say fast.
I?m currently taking Finnish language courses and my
target is not ?to sit on the
neck of social services. Stockholm ferry cruise,
where destiny awaited and
I met my future husband.
After some time I moved to
Finland and thanks to my
husband, the love of my life,
I was able to visit a lot of
cities and interesting places around the country, and
began to understand more
about the mentality and at-
titude of the Finns. Otherwise, I
feel quite comfortable here,
as people are very friendly,
polite, honest and responsible, which I feel is very important. After we
got married, I was faced with
the issue of obtaining a residence permit, which wasn?t
the most pleasant procedure
as the attitudes of certain
organs towards immigrants
are not always friendly. It was quiet and
peaceful, and people were
not in a hurry. Petersburg, so it was easy
for me to visit Finland and
enjoy all the pleasures.
One day my friends and
I decided to celebrate my
birthday on the Helsinki
. There were
many ways to relax here
and the nature was insanely
beautiful. (69?) 50 min
Full body massage: 53. As
my husband is a Finn, I was
able to complete the application procedure slightly more
quickly than others. As I?ve visited many other countries
as well, I must say that the
prices of food, petrol and
some other products are also very high. The summer is for
relaxing and feeling well despite the weather.
Back and neck massage: 28. Since then, I have
visited Finland quite a few
times for shopping, leisure
and cultural attractions but
I never thought about living here or marrying a Finnish man. like
many immigrants do, but to
improve my skills in Finnish and be useful to society
and the people that live here.
I have decided to organise
a business and I?m attending all possible courses and
seminars for entrepreneurs,
which have proven to be a big
advantage because of all the
knowledge and understanding I?m receiving about the
mentality and business culture of the Finns. CLASSIFIEDS & SERVICES

20 JUNE . I had heard about
many stereotypes associated with Finland before I
came here, but most of them
have not been con?rmed.
Two of them, depression and
boredom, are not true at all,
as there are a lot of things
to do here such as festivals, concerts, exhibitions,
marathons and so on
