of decision-making, a 49 per

and mandatory obligations to
invest in local defense manufacturing remain irritants for
American businesses.
Now, Modi wants to upend India?s arms-importer
tag and turn the country into not only a defense manufacturer but also a major
weapons exporter, much like
China has become in the past
several years.
To realise this goal, the
government removed the laborious license requirements
on almost 60 per cent of the
defense products for private
manufacturing companies.
Earlier this year, the government raised the limit on
foreign investment in the defense industry from 26 per
cent to 49 per cent to encourage more partnerships with
foreign investors.
?We want that the global defense companies should

India is the world?s largest

arms imports, almost three
times as many as China.
Over the next seven
years, India is likely to spend
more than 130 billion dollars (104 billion euros) importing arms, officials say,
to upgrade its understocked,
Soviet-era arsenal with modern weapon systems.

This is, in fact, the method
that Google recommends for
folks who want to get rid of
their old phones. If the person said the

the Whoopi Goldberg cell remained inactive.
When neurologist Itzhak

the find sparked a lot of speculation. Using
the button to take pictures
instead of tapping is not only glove friendly, but also lets
you steady your camera with
your other hand for better
pictures overall.
Some may respond positively to an image of Kobe Bryant.
Research: brain
has special cells
for recognising
familiar faces
J a N I K a a RO . The researchers found that these nerve
cells do not respond to a visual stimulus as such but are
seemingly programmed to
fire only when a face is consciously recognised.
Some nerve cells in the region of the brain called the
medial temporal lobe only become activated when
they encounter a very specific stimulus. A key
goal is making sharing files
and collaboration with other
users easier and more social,
says Tulokas. If you have one, use the
dedicated camera button on
your phone: it may be hard
to realize in a touchscreen
world, but a lot of phones are
programmed to recognise a
shutter button, just like the
cameras of old. A cell may only fire when the person sees
a picture of Hollywood actress Jennifer Aniston, while
others respond selectively to images of Halle Berry, Kobe Bryant, the leaning
tower of Pisa or the person?s
grandmother, which is why
these neurons have also been
dubbed grandmother cells.
The research team with
members from the UK, the
US and Germany studied the
functioning of these cells by
presenting volunteers with
manipulated pictures of famous people. In most cases,

However, Younited goes

connected to other cloud services, so Younited can also be
used to access files on Dropbox, Facebook, Picasa, and

F-Secure is not a newcomer when it comes to data security . Once
the nerve cell has stored the
abstract idea of Jennifer Aniston, our brain conjures up
her image when we see her,
regardless of the role she is

Local benefit
For many users, the biggest
benefit to Younited is undoubtedly its Finnishness.
?Finnish legislation and protection of privacy make it
possible to offer very secure services,. faces you want to
show up in shots, for example, should always be front-lit
if you can avoid squinting ?
there are a lot of more artful
shots you can take by playing around with shadows, or

The beauty of a phone camera is that you?re not limited

Tips for better pics
Here are three quick tips
to better fall smartphone
photos:
1. ?In addition, Finland has plenty of
knowhow in the field of data security.. Many scientists believed that the cell was the
terminal point of a long chain
of hierarchically organised
cells, which all participated
in the analysis of Aniston?s
facial features.
Under this hypothesis,
neurons analyse separate features, such as the eyes, nose,
chin, cheeks and smile, and
only when the criteria set for
recognising the face as Jennifer Aniston are met, the Jennifer Aniston cell fires up.
Fly in the face
The new study seems to fly in
the face of this theory as the
neurons did not respond to a
visual stimulus, but only became active when the face
was consciously recognised.
But does this mean that our
brains contain separate cells
for all objects and events we
remember. Also Younited is a product of several years of development, and
its launch is thus not linked
to the recent news about
threats to internet users?
privacy.
For the future, F-Secure plans to keep developing Younited and expand the
range of its features. There?s no shortage
of options for anyone looking
to put their files in the cloud.
But while the biggest cloud
storage services are created by US tech titans, there
is now also a Finnish-made
alternative.
Created by the computer
security company F-Secure,
Younited offers the same basic functions as its international counterparts: it gives
you a cloud storage (5 GB for
free, and paid options exist
for those who require more)
that allows you to back up
files in the cloud as well as to
synchronise them between
several computers. Remove it. Here are tips
on how to wipe your phone,
safely, before you resell:
1. Apple, for

iOS 8 . Encrypting
your phone scrambles the data to make it unreadable to

However, Tulokas notes that

that gives you more editing

2. Learn how your phone
deals with colour: phone
cameras don?t always like too
many colours at once. HT
aN INTERNaTIONaL research
team has looked into how the
so-called Jennifer Aniston
neurons work. Many Android phones offer users the
option of using an SD card
to augment the amount of
storage on their phones. In this
case, remember that software is your friend. This goes against
our current understanding of
memory formation, according to which individual memories are carried by groups of
neurons and when we retrieve
memories we always partly
recreate them.
This could also mean
that if our Jennifer Aniston
cell was for some reason destroyed we would lose all our
mental images of the actor.
Research team leader Professor Rodrigo Quian
Quiroga from the University of Leicester proposed
that these neurons are concept cells of some kind. button on your phone, though a

were amalgamations of the
faces of two different celebrities, with the blended pictures
featuring pairings such as
Whoopi Goldberg/Bob Marley, Sylvester Stallone/Arnold Schwarzenegger, Uma
Thurman/Nicole Kidman and
Angelina Jolie/Halle Berry.
The results showed that
the neuron previously identified as the person?s Whoopi Goldberg cell only fired

Hanna Ollila, a researcher

Use of snus in combination with cigarettes has become more common among boys in particular in the 2000s.
The primary characteristic of addiction is a loss of
control over one?s behaviour
despite knowledge of adverse consequences, Gorelick says, such as fractured
relationships and poor performance at work or school.
So how might this thinking apply to smartphone use?
A 2014 study asked 164
college students about their
smartphone use: Women

a day on their phones and
men logged more than seven hours. And people who read

Fruit naturally contains fructose, so it shouldn?t matter if it is
added to the food directly, according to Lyytikäinen, secretary
general of the National Nutrition Council.
Basic introduction
From six months onwards,
the child can be offered seasonal basic ingredients.
?Now would be an ideal
time to offer children Finnish
apples and lingonberries.?
Lyytikäinen recommends
that parents crush lingonberries and mix them with porridge or serve them as finger
food.
Lyytikäinen, who has led
courses on babies. If the rice is still chewy by
the time the liquid has been absorbed, add up to ½ cup more water. Taste, and add salt and
pepper as needed.
? Transfer the pilaf to a deep serving platter or divide it among individual wide, shallow bowls.
Spoon some tomatoes at the edges. The child will find it
fun, while getting to know lingonberry as a flavour.?
Ingredients
? ¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
? 6 small plum tomatoes (may substitute Kumato tomatoes)
? ½ teaspoon kosher salt, plus more as needed, freshly ground black pepper
? ½ medium onion
? 1 medium carrot, scrubbed well
? 1 medium clove garlic
? 425 grams canned, no-salt-added chickpeas, with their liquid
? water, ½ kg lean ground lamb
? 1½ cups medium-grain white rice
? ¼ cup dried currants
? 2 teaspoons Madras-style curry powder
? 1 teaspoon ground cumin, cilantro leaves, for garnish (optional).
Steps
? Heat ¼ cup of the oil in a large cast-iron skillet over medium heat.
? Cut the tomatoes in half lengthwise, arranging them cut side up in the skillet. Sprinkle them
lightly with salt and a few grinds of pepper. Cook undisturbed for 10 to 15 minutes, until the
tomato skins are blackened and blistered.
? Meanwhile, cut the onion and carrot into ½ cm dice. Mince the garlic. Drain and rinse the
chickpeas, reserving their liquid in a large measuring cup; add enough water to yield a total
of 3 cups.
? Heat the remaining 2 tablespoons of oil in a large saute pan or wok over medium-high heat.
Once the oil shimmers, add the ground lamb in pinches, then add the chickpeas. Cook for
about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to break up any large clumps of meat, until the chickpeas are lightly browned and beginning to pop. Fructose added to the Finnish Piltti pureed fruit for small children
sparked surprised and worried comments.
Should parents avoid giving their children baby foods
that contain added fructose
or fruit juices?
?I don?t consider this to
be a real problem,. It
doesn?t matter whether the
child gets it added to the food
or directly from fruit.?
Nestlé, the manufacturer
of the Piltti range, says that
fructose is added to baby
food to sweeten the flavour,

are not sweet to get the child

possibly influencing the development of the child?s dietary preferences, as studies
have shown that children

when small, continue to love
sugary treats as teenagers.
Lyytikäinen says that the
risk can be minimised by offering children a balanced
diet, with sweet purees forming only part of it. What is a rice pilaf if not a pre-modern-era rice

that children have the opportunity to try different foods.
Parents may have their
own habits and likings, but
with a child you can venture
into new worlds of flavour.?
According to Lyytikäinen,
people often regard it as important that children?s diet is
rich in certain foods.
?But that does not have to
be the yardstick of a good diet.
You can make a smiley face of a
few lingonberries on top of the
porridge. Without
the added fructose, children
may easily find the taste unpalatable, particularly as
fruit and berries are also naturally acidic in flavour.
?It?s part of our food culture to add very little sugar to
dishes made of fruit and berries. nutrition,
explains that while one child
may take an instant liking to
lingonberries, it may bring
a grimace on another child?s
face.
?A grimace as an initial
reaction does not mean that
parents should not persevere as this is just the first
response to the bitter taste.
If the second try causes the
same reaction, I would add a
little sugar to the berries to
see if this helps.?
Food given to children
is not only about nutrition,
Lyytikäinen emphasises.
?It?s also about getting
them to know the family?s
food culture. B E N w I c K ? T H e W A S H i N g T O N P O S T

? Carefully turn the tomatoes over in the skillet; season lightly with salt and pepper on the

? Add the onion, carrot and garlic to the lamb-chickpea mixture; cook for about 3 minutes,
stirring occasionally, then add the rice, currants, curry powder and cumin, stirring to incorporate.
? Pour the water-chickpea liquid into the lamb-rice mixture and add ½ teaspoon of salt.
Bring to a boil, stir once, then reduce the heat to medium. Cover and cook for about 15
minutes or until the liquid is absorbed and the rice is tender. says Arja
Lyytikäinen, the secretary
general of the National Nutrition Council.
?Fructose is naturally
found in fruit and berries. This preparation is hearty enough for main-course fare, with possible leftovers that
taste swell at room temperature.
The caramelized tomatoes are a nice component and call for low-maintenance multitasking

We cooked this in a wok, which made for easy additions and stirrings of ingredients.
