would have growth policies when most of our neighbours are going for austerity. The City of Helsinki has
already agreed on three new
collection systems and Espoo
on one, while Vantaa has invited companies to tender for
the instalment of a collection

A Swedish and a Finnish company have competing systems on the market,
which work on a similar principle. We have

some residents found it troublesome that a family-sized

The collection system in
Vuores is from the Finnish
manufacturer
MariMatic,
with plastic pipes of 20?30
centimetres in diameter.
According to Isoaho, the
pipes were a deciding factor
when choosing a system. At the end of the
pipe, the waste is deposited
in the correct container.
When the container is full,
a refuse lorry will collect the
waste. Growtharians
say the downgrade is proof that austerity has failed
and they should enact pro-growth policies. The
system with smaller pipes
consumes less energy and is
also easier to install.
In both Vuores and Suurpelto, the automatic waste

Reijo Sandberg, project director of the Kivistö project in

being planned for Kivistö centre, reaching roughly 12,00014,000 residents.
The city of Vantaa also
looked at the possibility of

In Vuores, the problems come
in smaller size than microwave ovens. Our spread to the German bund is only 0.19, less than the 0.46 of a year ago.
We have a negative net debtor position. However, Finland is not being forced by
the market to watch its budget. And, of course, we could

In the largest cities of
Sweden these clean and ecofriendly waste collection systems have been taking care
of residents. We could increase this by a half, and
add another ?3.5 billion in short-term stimulus measures. Vikkula
says, amazed.
In Suurpelto, the collection system, which was manufactured by the Swedish
company Envac, has a steel

Because this was a concern for some parents with
small children, locks were installed on the chutes.

order to take down a larger-than-life criminal, played
by the renowned Sean Penn.
However, events are based
on Paul Lieberman?s sevenpart Times series Tales From
the Gangster Squad.
The ?lm gained unfortunate notoriety last year when
its release date was postponed in light of the Aurora, Colorado shooting. Also known as Isokynä (big

emerged in the ?70s to become one of the most respected artists of the genre,
without attracting the commercial success of some of
his peers.
Friday 8 March offers local roots duo Mudville and
TV Blues Channel. Advance
word is mixed: some have
praised the ?lm for its sheer
audacity, while others have
been lost among the convoluted plot, which jumbles the
various time periods together
in a nonlinear narrative.
Beautiful Creatures, meanwhile, sees UK ?lmmakers
attempting to grab hold of
the Twilight crowd, deep in
mourning after their favourite franchise spat out its ?nal
instalment last year. See for
yourself.
Elsewhere this week, be
prepared for some simultaneous navel-gazing and

with Run Lola Run (1996) director Tom Tykwer for Cloud

Political connections
By the 1970s, Graniittilinna had lost none of its political connections, and on
International Workers. The frozen
horse meat imported from
Mexico and Canada is sold
for approximately 2 euro
per kilo and at such a cheap
price it has mainly ended
up as a raw material rather
than on a dinner plate, according to customs statistician Timo Koskimäki.
Some of the horsemeat
found its way into pet food,
although certain information about the use of the
meat is not available. Mains range from
roast arctic char to fried pikeperch for ?sh lovers, to tender well-done elk and sautéed
reindeer all the way from Inari
for the meat lovers. This
conclusion comes after a
study in which students
were asked to work out
until their body temperature reached 40°C and
then gave beer to half of
the students and water to
the other half. Corbalan, a cardiologist working with the Real Madrid football team,
said that he has recommended barley drinks
to professional sportsmen after exhausting
activities.
A study from the University of South Carolina published last fall
pointed out that natural
drinks such as fruit juices, milk or even beer could
be more bene?cial after
a workout than industrial recovery sports drinks.
The recovery drink should
be adapted to the type of
training: for example, after strength training it is
recommended to drink
protein drinks.
Many experts don?t
recommend the combina-
tion of alcohol with physical activity and encourage
choosing the non-alcoholic option.

Hangover
greasy food
craving
The desire to eat greasy,
fatty food after drinking too much the previous
night is related to humanity?s beginnings. Lamb
vorschmack, a favourite of
Marshal Mannerheim, is a
tasty starter along with chilled
schnapps. The im-
pressive building is now a
restaurant and bar, but it has
witnessed war, revolution
and sports activities during
its colourful lifetime.
The restaurant?s history
extends as far back as 1884,
when the Helsinki Workers. were re-located
to Säästöpankinranta when
the building, designed by the
architect Karl Lindahl, was
opened in 1908.
In the period before
Russia?s 1917 Revolution,
Russian-influenced foods are on the menu at Graniittilinna.
Vladimir Lenin, exiled from
his native land, used to meet
co-conspirators and make
plans in the bar. Each bowl of ikura
with free re?lls costs 1,890
yen (15 euro). When sober, people won?t usually give in to
those cravings but after a
night of drinking they lose
such learned inhibitions as
disciplined eating.
Another explanation
for this desire for fat foods
involves brain chemistry,
speci?cally a brain chemical called galanin. According to Professor William
Gruchow from the University of North Carolina,
galanin increases appetite
for fats and alcohol intake
results in increased galanin production. Association operated a bar at Kaivokatu. still rocking

An exhibition of Per Maning, one of Norway?s most appreciated modern artists, particularly known for his animal-themed photography and video works, will be opening
at EMMA on next Wednesday 6 March. They are works from his animal-themed photographic series that were on display at the Biennale of Sydney in 1992 and the Venice Biennale in
1995. The human
nature, identity and otherness are the main themes in Maning?s art. The final part of
the exhibition presents new photographic works portraying people of different ages
and their typical emotional states.
The range of the six video works on display includes short animal-themed videos
from the 1990s to longer works that are closer to performance art and deal with communication between people.
